From beginning instrument study to classroom subjects, group classes cover most popular instruments and topics, including college-level curriculum—please check the COURSE CATALOG below or contact us for an updated list of upcoming classes!

Group classes are small and student-focused and each standard group class contains 10 hour-long weekly classes over a 3-calendar-month quarter. Beginning instrument group classes are also an excellent affordable way to begin instrument study at 40% cost savings for double the class time! Specialized classes may vary in weekly class time and term (please see course description for any differences).

Classes require a certain minimum enrollment in order to begin on schedule, so please encourage family or friends to register with you for the best experience!


We also offer Masterclasses and Workshops

 

These are one-day seminars on specialized or advanced topics, such as “Improvisation Workshop” with a real professional backing band, “Performance Workshop”, or “Tone Production on the Classical Guitar”, or “Guitar Maintenance Basics”, to name a few. Some masterclasses are available only to currently-enrolled private lesson students or by audition-only. Workshops are usually ongoing recurring events. Please contact us or your private instructor for the latest offerings!

INTRODUCTION TO MUSIC & EXPLORATION CLASS

Recommended for the youngest students, this class is for those wanting to learn about and explore music for the first time. For students who are not yet ready or have not chosen their instrument for private lesson study, this class also serves as a survey of several types of instruments. Students will become involved listeners, performers, and most importantly—musicians! Developing a solid musical foundation, students will focus on these skill through a variety of activities—exploring different instruments (piano, percussion, singing), understanding rhythm, becoming aware of musical structure through involved listening, training their ears, learning music notation elements, and other topics/activities based on class aptitude. The class culminates with the students’ first formal musical performance!

*The Parent/Child Toddler classes (ages 1-3) are 10 half-hour weekly classes over a 3 month quarter at a special rate of $160 per child. To register for these classes, please download the registration form above and submit your form in person with payment to our school office during our instructional hours. Parents are integral to student success in these classes and are therefore asked to commit to being in class each week with their child/children.

BEGINNING PIANO CLASS

This class is for young students desiring to learn piano playing skills and musical concepts to prepare for further study, including eventual private lessons, while also getting a survey of piano study in order to see if the piano is the right instrument for them. Class goals include: playing solos and duets on a real piano, establishing proper playing technique, reading music notation, surveying of music theory topics, understanding rhythm and pitch, beginning ear training, and additional topics based student interest. At term end, students are encouraged to perform in a small recital for family/friends to showcase what they learned! After the class, continuing students have the option to take intermediate level class or may graduate to private lessons with instructor approval. Note: new students enrolling in intermediate level classes require instructor approval to complete enrollment.

BEGINNING UKULELE CLASS

This class serves both as an introductory course in foundational ukulele playing skills and musical concepts or as a primer course for guitar students under age 10 who are not yet ready to study guitar. Class goals include: playing lead/rhythm, strumming patterns, establishing proper picking technique, reading basic music notation, learning open position chords and identifying them by name/symbol, surveying basic music theory and beginning ear training, and other topics based on student interest/aptitude. At term end, students are encouraged to perform in a small recital for family/friends to showcase what they learned! After the class, continuing students have the option to take intermediate level class or may graduate to private lessons with instructor approval. Note: new students enrolling in intermediate level classes require instructor approval to complete enrollment.

  • A soprano or concert size ukulele for use in class and at-home practice (students with other ukulele sizes, please contact us for instructor approval)

BEGINNING GUITAR CLASS

This class is for students who desire to learn foundational guitar playing skills and musical concepts necessary for more advanced study, including eventual private lessons, while also getting a survey of guitar study to see if the guitar is the right instrument for them. Class goals include: playing lead/rhythm, strumming patterns, establishing proper picking technique, reading basic music notation, learning open position chords and identifying them by name/symbol, surveying basic music theory and beginning ear training, and other topics based on student interest/aptitude. At term end, students are encouraged to perform in a small recital for family/friends to showcase what they learned! After the class, continuing students have the option to take intermediate level class or may graduate to private lessons with instructor approval. Note: new students enrolling in intermediate level classes require instructor approval to complete enrollment.

YOUTH CHOIR & BEGINNING VOICE CLASS

This class is for young students desiring to improve their singing and to build their musicianship for their future vocal goals in any style, including eventual advanced study in private lessons. Students will focus on learning pieces/songs, proper breathing technique and safe vocal control, intonation, ear training, learning notation elements, rhythm drills, blending in a group/ensemble, a survey of beginning music theory topics, and special topics based on student interest/aptitude. Select classes also include combined beginning piano study (see notes below). The class culminates in a small recital for friends and family! After the class, students are encouraged to continue in the next class session or may graduate to private lessons with instructor approval.

BEGINNING STRING INSTRUMENT CLASS

This is class is for beginning orchestral string instrument players desiring learn foundational playing skills and musicianship. Students are expected to have already chosen their main string instrument of study—violin, viola, or cello—to focus on in their time in class. Upright orchestral bass students are encouraged to contact our school about private lesson options. Students will focus on learning pieces/songs, proper bowing technique, intonation, reading notation in treble or bass clef, rhythm drills, blending in a group/ensemble, a survey of music theory and/or history topics, general care of the instrument, and special topics based on student interest/aptitude. The class culminates in a small recital for friends and family! After the class, continuing students have the option to take intermediate level class or may graduate to private lessons with instructor approval.

  • A properly-sized violin, viola, or cello in good working order (students without instruments please contact us about rental options and sizing)

BEGINNING FLUTE CLASS

This is class is for beginning flute players to learn foundational flute-playing skills and musicianship. Students will learn proper embouchure and fingering, breathing technique, note reading for treble, rhythm drills, intonation, blending in a group/ensemble, and general maintenance of the instrument. The class culminates in a student recital for family and friends! After the class, continuing students have the option to take intermediate level class or may graduate to private lessons with instructor approval.

BEGINNING BRASS INSTRUMENT CLASS

This is class is for beginning or intermediate brass players to learn foundational brass-playing skills and musicianship. Students are expected to have already chosen their main brass instrument of study—trumpet, trombone, euphonium/baritone, horn, or tuba—to focus on in class. Students will learn on new mouthpiece techniques, proper breathing, note reading for treble or bass clef, rhythm drills, blending in a group/ensemble, and general maintenance of the instrument. The class materials (sheet music, worksheets, etc) will be provided and printed by the instructor and each student will receive their own folder. The goal is to make each player understand their instrument and how to better play music! After the class, continuing students have the option to take intermediate level class or may graduate to private lessons with instructor approval.

Required Materials

  • One of the following instruments in good working order: trumpet, trombone, horn, euphonium/baritone, or tuba (students without instruments please contact us about rental options)
